What to Prepare Before Your Confinement Nanny Arrives

A Simple & Heartfelt Guide by YANXI MAMA

Welcoming your nanny into your home doesn’t have to be stressful. Here’s a simple checklist to make sure she feels comfortable and ready to help you with your baby and postpartum recovery.

Basic Living Essentials

  • 🛏️ Clean bed or foldable mattress - A quiet and private corner for rest

  • 🧼 Towel (face/body) - Preferably new

  • 🥤 Personal cup or thermal bottle - For daily hydration

  • 👣 Indoor slippers - Comfortable & easy to clean

  • 🧺 Small storage space - Drawer or shelf for her belongings

Meal & Water

  • 🍽️ Daily meals - Usually shared with the family or provided separately

  • 🚫 Dietary restrictions - Please clarify in advance (e.g., no spicy food)

  • 💧 Hot water access - Kettle or thermal flask for easy refill

Baby & Mom Supplies (Usually prepared by the family)

  • 🍼 Baby bottles, formula, diapers - Nanny assists in using/cleaning

  • 🧽 Sterilizer - For bottles and pacifiers

  • 🧖‍♀️ Maternity pads, nursing pads - For your postpartum care

  • 📓 Notebook (optional) - To track baby’s feeding/sleep/diaper routine

Communication & House Rules

  • 💬 Set clear expectations - Phone use, laundry arrangements, rest hours

  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Introduce household members - So she knows who to speak with

  • 🫶 Stay open to feedback - Especially around baby care or your emotions

🧡 Bonus: Small Gestures Go a Long Way

  • A small welcome note or fruit basket 🍊

  • Let her know: “Thanks for being here — it means a lot.”

  • A smile. A kind word. Trust builds from the start.
